5 Proven Ways To Promote Your Web Site

Here are 5 tips I received from Larry Thompson yesterday and I wanted to pass them on ...

5 tips to help promote your web site ..

You must do this .. if you don't promote your Site
no one will know your it is there ..

and you will be enjoying it ALL BY YOURSELF !

not good .. so .. let's all follow Larry's tips

as always .... Enjoy!

5 Proven Ways To Promote Your Web Site

1.
Holding a contest or sweepstakes is an proven way
to promote your web site. You can announce your site
to hundreds of web sites that l.ist f.ree contests and
sweepstakes. Send out a press releases about your
contest or sweepstakes. Ask entrants to your contest
or sweepstakes if they would accept offers from your
business in the future by e-mail.

2. Use online chat rooms to promote your web site.
Find the right chat room where your targeted audience
would gather. Announce to e.veryone in the chat room
something interesting or f.ree that's offered on your
web site. This will draw visitors to your web site.
Always be aware of chat room rules before engaging
the visitors in a sales pitch that could be considered
spam.

3. Cross promote your web site with other sites. I try
to find other web sites. that have the same target
audience, but are not in direct competition with my
business. Doing cross promotions with other businesses
increases your p.rofits, sales, and beat your competition.
You can find businesses to cross promote all over the
Internet.

4. You can easily promote your web site by using traffic
generators. It could be a f.ree e-zine, service, e-book,
contest etc. Giving away traffic generators gives you the
o.pportunity to get f.ree advertising by including your ad
on them . There are online directories that will also let
you submit your freebie information. You can even let
other people give away your traffic generators.

5. Posting messages to e-mail discussion lists is a great
way to promote your web site An e-mail discussion l.ist
is a g.roup of people connected together via e-mail that
can communicate with one another. When you post a
message to a l.ist include your signature file at the end.
Include an attention getting sentence why they should
visit your web site.

Quote of the Day:

"The universal regard for money is the one hopeful fact in
our civilization. Money is the most important thing in the
world. It represents health, strength, honor, generosity
and beauty. Not the least of its virtues is that it
destroys base people as certainly as it fortifies and
dignifies noble people." -- George Bernard Shaw

Cashing In On Technology Trends

Here is an article by Shelley Lowery that was sent me recently by a fellow Internet Marketer, Ian Traynor, in his Marketing Magic newsletter. Shelley talks about the 3 biggest trends online today and how we can use all this technology to reach our markets and prosper in our Internet Marketing endeavours. Blogging ( written messages ) is one I am sure you are aware of
( or you would not be reading this ) Vlogging ( videos where you can be the star ) a more recent method online marketers are using and the newest kid on the block - Podcasting is like having your own radio show ( audio feeds you make available for others to listen to or download). All three of these three technologies, and others, are coming together as we reach the inevitable "Convergence" of our technological world. Shelley gives a great outline and includes some priceless links to more resources so you can understand and use these new technologies to your best advantage.

As always ... Enjoy!

If you're marketing your products or services on the Internet, keeping up with the latest Internet technology is an important part of developing a successful Internet business. For this reason, this article will focus on some of the latest technology trends and how you can use them to market your products or services.

Blogs

If you've been on the Internet for any time at all, you have most-likely heard about blogs. A blog, which is short for web log, is a personal online journal that is open for public viewing.

The author of a blog, referred to as a blogger (web logger), usually makes entries to the blog on a very frequent basis. These entries usually contain commentary on specific issues, helpful tips and/or instructions with regard to the subject matter and recommended links to appropriate resources.

Blogs have the potential to create a wealth of repeat traffic to your web site, as if the subject is of interest to your target market, your readers will return each day to read your latest post. What's more, Search Engines love blogs, as they are loaded with content and updated frequently.

Visit Blogger to learn more and set up a free blog: http://www.blogger.com

Vlog

A vlog, which is short for video blog, is a personal online video journal that is open for public viewing and/or downloading. Vlogging can refer to either streaming video or downloadable videos within a web log.

To create a vlog, your first step will be to record a video and save the file on your computer. The following software programs will assist you in creating your video:

* Windows Movie Maker

* QuickTime Pro

* iMovie (Mac users)

As there are many in-depth steps to creating a vlog, you may want visit a site, such as www.freevlog.org for a complete step by step tutorial.

Vlogs combine the power of text blogs with video and can be a very effective sales tool.

Podcasting

Podcasting is the distribution of audio files over the Internet, such as a radio broadcast. It is one of the hottest ideas to hit the Internet, as users can download the broadcast to their media player, such as an iPod or MP3 player, and listen at their leisure.

To create a Podcast, you will need to create an audio file and save it in MP3 format. You can then upload the file to your server, along with an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) file. Your listeners can then download your program using a special program that will enable them to retrieve your file automatically.

Once you have created your podcast, you can then register it at a podcast directory, such as www.podcast.net so that people can subscribe.

Although the most popular form of podcasts are audio files, you can also create a podcast that will transmit video, text, and image files to any capable media player.

Distributing your own podcast is a great way to market your products and/or services.

You can find a step by step guide to creating your own podcast here:
http://radio.about.com/od/podcastin1/a/aa030805a.htm

If you need assistance creating your podcast, Rick Beneteau, of Mentor Audio, will be happy to assist you: http://www.mentoraudio.com/podcast/

All of the above technology utilizes RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is an XML format specifically designed to share content. You can learn more about this powerful technology here: http://www.web-source.net/syndicate.htm

All of the above marketing tools provide a great way for you to reach your protential customers. As with most marketing techniques, it is best to provide your readers with quality information that teaches or informs with regard to the subject and simply recommend products or services to assist them. These recommendations may be your own products or services or those of an affiliate program you are promoting. It's a win - win proposition no matter how you look at it. Your reader is provided with the information they desire, and you make a sale.

With all of the latest technology, it has never been any easier to reach your potential customers. Use this technology to your fullest advantage.

More Info On The Hyphen Debate

In my last post I provided some information about the Hyphen in your domain name debate. A very "hot" topic right now and an isuue we should all be aware of and deal with ( especially people that may have domains registered that contain Hyphens ) .

It is true that having hyphens in your doamian name does make it easier on the viewer's eyes because the title stands out more than without the hyphen - for example:

http: //www.playbettergolfnow.com

http://www.play-better-golf-now.com

Having the hyphen does make the domain name more readable. The question remains - how do search engines react to the hyphens in your domain name ?

It seems from all accounts so far, not in a good way and that can mean lower traffic to your web site - not a good thing.

Dr. Andy Williams sheds some more light on the subject in his most recent EZSEO Newsletter. ( a side note - Dr. Andy used to have ahyphen in his domain .. he doesn't any longer .. I think that says something about his view point . You be the judge.

Below is what Dr.Andy has to say about the subject .

As always .. Enjoy !

The Hyphen Debate

by Andy Williams

A raging debate is whether or not hyphens in domain names can hurt
your rankings. You all know my opinion here, but I have received a
number of emails from people saying that Google Engineer Matt Cutts
has said in various places recently that Google does not penalise a
site for hyphens.

Well, I'll come to that in a minute. For now, I think Michael
Campbell summarised it very nicely in his newsletter earlier this
week when he talked about the hyphen issue. He said that there was
no real reason for debate since you can all go check for
yourselves. I talked with Michael about this and the odd exception
to the rule, and he told me:

"Yep, there's always exceptions to every rule. That's why I kept
testing - 18 tries - until I finally found a hyphenated domain in
the top five. But for most of the hotly contested affiliate
categories... they're nowhere to be found. "

OK, Michael and I agree on this.

So, why did Matt Cutts say that hyphenated domains were not
penalised? Well, he didn't, at least not that I can find. What he
did say was (and this quote is taken from Alan Gardyne's excellent
newsletter as I could not find the original location of the quote,
though I do remember it being accurate):

"We don't use hyphens as a spam signal."

Well that clears it up doesn't it? NOT!

What Matt Cutts has done is avoid the question (and who can blame
him? Google aren't about to tell you what makes a page rank
highly, are they?). The question that is being asked is "Do
hyphenated domains get penalised?". This answer does not answer
that, it just says that hyphens don't automatically mark the site
as spam.

There are a number of reasons why a page ranking will fall, and
most don't have anything to do with whether they are spam or not.

From my own observations, and following on from what I told you in
a previous newsletter, hyphenated domains do not get you booted out
of Google (which is what you can expect if your site is spam).
From what I can see, Page Rank is maintained, so there is obviously
no spam penalty in action here. What I do see though is what
Michael Campbell described. Fewer and fewer domains with hyphens
ranking in the top 10 at Google.

You make you own minds up about this, I know I have.

The Real Truth About Hyphens in Domain Names

I was wondering about this topic ever since I saw it mentioned in an email I received a feww days ago. I have a personal interest in the topic because I have a number of hyphenated domain names and wondered how this would affect their search engine placement. Well, sure enough my trusty Internet Marketing Newsletter from Michael Campbell arrived a couple of days ago and he had part of the newletter devoted to answering my question? I am still going to do a bit more reasearch before I totally ditch my hyphenated domains ( always a sceptic ) but there is some very good advise in this newslaetter excerpt from this very learned internet marketer and we would all be wise to heed his words..

I know I plan to .

As always enjoy !

Michael Campbell wrote:

There's been a lot of debate over hyphens in domain names of
late. So after all the hype, speculation, and reading several
"advanced" publications on the matter, all it takes is a
simple test.

Go to Google and search for very competitive phrases. Choose
categories that affiliates are known to battle over. The results
are clear. (Even my hypothesis that old hyphenated domains -
pre long domain era - would be "grandfathered in" was wrong.)

The first test search had just one occurrence of a hyphenated
domain name in the top 20 results. It was way down in the 17th
spot. Second try revealed no hyphenated domains in the top
twenty results. Third try, only one in 14th spot.

The test was repeated several more times only to reveal
similar results. Only on my eighteenth attempt, did I finally
find a hyphenated domain name in a top five spot.

I can hear you saying... "But what about non competitive
phrases?" Ok, lets take something simple like, "sourdough
bread." There's only one PPC ad for the phrase, so it's not
exactly a hotly contested category.

Again the results were clear. No domains names with two or
three hyphens were found. And only one domain name with a
single hyphen made it into the top 20 results. It was in 19th
spot. Not exactly where you want to be if you're relying on
search engine traffic. More tests revealed similar results.

Here's a few interesting things to note. In all of my searches,
there was not a single occurrence of any domain name with
more than one hyphen. And in competitive categories, an
average 60% of domain names don't have any keywords in
the domain name itself.

Where I did see keywords that matched the search string
was in the url for the page. This makes it appear that naming
subdirectories with single keywords (without hyphens) is back
in vogue on Google... at least for the moment.

www.mysite.com/baking/breads/sourdough.html

At the heart of the controversy, you may have heard that a
Google spokesperson said, "Google doesn't penalize for hyphens
in domain names." But before you consider the validity, check
when the statement was made, for as you know, the search
engines are constantly changing. What was true last month may
be a thing of the past.

(You can also read between the lines, putting a different
spin on the same words... they don't "penalize" hyphenated
domains... but they don't give them as much "weight" either,
meaning they are less likely to show up in the results.)

If you ask me, it's mostly the spamfiliates and portal
builders that register domains with more than one hyphen.
Regular sites prefer something short, simple and memorable.

The reason why portal builders prefer hyphenated domains, is
because they are 15% more likely to get clicked on. It's easier
for the human eye to pick out keywords in domains when
scanning the results page. (But that's not going to help if
hyphenated domains are not showing up at all. ;-)

Also, in earlier SEO days, the hyphenated domains performed a
little better in search results. The hyphen acted like a delimiter
separating the keywords. But these days, search engines can
easily "pick out" the search phrase from any long convoluted
string of text.

Again, all it takes is a simple test. Go to Google and type in
any phrase like "sourdough bread" and you'll see pages like
this one.

www.mysite.com/whatissourdoughfaqs.html

The word sourdough is shown in bold and the rest of the url is
not. So let's put that one to rest... Google can easily detect
and extract search terms from within a string of text.

So in conclusion, here's a few things to consider at this time.

1) Stay away from hyphenated domain names.

2) Register any new names for at least three years.

3) Build your content and incoming links slowly.

4) Use articles to build valuable content over time.

5) Don't use articles requiring a backlink to the author.

6) Organize content using keywords in subdirectories.

7) Keywords in the domain name are not required.

8) Avoid variables like question marks in your url.

9) Use absolute urls if you want to pass PageRank.

10) Get incoming links from pages on related topics.

Follow these 10 tips and you'll be well on your way to the top
of the search engines. Then sprinkle on the linking strategies
from Revenge of the Mininet, add content and traffic from from
the Article Underground, and you'll be virtually unstoppable.

So what's stopping you?

Auction Sites Trafficking Stolen Goods Online

Can you believe it ..there are people out there that are taking advantage.. they are selling products that they do not have the right to be selling ..and the buyer is none the wiser.

Maybe the buyer can look at it as a "good deal" but anyway you cut it this is against the law and mostly is just not nice - as in Illegal. If you are doing this or thinking you can perhaps you should be re-thinking your marketing strategy.

If you are a product owner and you want a few tips on how you can do your own "policing" so you don't become a victim of these internet "Crooks" and no one should be offended by the term since if you are selling something you do not have the right to sell .. then YOU ARE A CROOK !!

Jim Edwards is an online marketer who has been a victim of this and here he offers some helpful insights to guard your products from these internet "Crooks".

As always .. Enjoy !

Auction Sites Trafficking Stolen Goods Online

- by Jim Edwards

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Ah yes, eBay! The online auction giant that makes all your
dreams come true for finding that special something you
can't find anywhere else.

It's like a giant garage sale in the sky.

Unfortunately, eBay's size makes it easy for people to sell
stolen or unauthorized merchandise and not get caught.

To their credit, I think eBay does as much as humanly
possible to police their site and shut down any offenders
quickly.

However, I recently discovered that plenty of mischief still
occurs, especially with downloadable products.

When checking my email yesterday, I found two messages that
disturbed me.

The first was an automated message from eBay telling me
about an auction selling an ebook about writing ebooks.

Another email came in from a good customer who sent me a
link to another auction on eBay that, to them, "looked
suspicious."

I clicked on the links for both auctions and found identical
postings by two different sellers.

Though they did not mention my ebook, "How To Write and
Publish Your Own eBook... in as little as 7 Days," the
blatant similarity between the wording on the auctions and
my www.7DayEbook.com website aroused my curiosity.

Since they didn't reference the ebook they were selling by
title, I decided to go ahead and buy from both sellers to
see what they sent me.

Imagine my horror when they both delivered my own ebook,
which they were selling illegally.

I immediately got the auctions shut down, but the damage was
already done.

Plenty of stolen merchandise gets sold via online auction
sites.

People call it "bootlegged" or "unauthorized copies" to
soften the wording for what they really know is "stolen
merchandise."

Of the two sellers mentioned above, I believe one knew he
was illegally selling my ebook and didn't care, while the
other person was just ignorant and thought she could sell it
because she'd bought it from someone else. Regardless of
their true intentions, their actions were illegal.

Now, let's discuss how you protect yourself and your
intellectual property against illegal sales and
"bootlegging" on eBay and other online auction sites.

First, set up automated searches on the major online auction
services.

Set them up to automatically notify you whenever an auction
gets posted that includes your name or the name of your
product.

You can also set them up to email you whenever an auction
gets listed with certain keywords in it, in my case "write
ebook."

Second, if you find someone has stolen your intellectual
property (sales copy, ebooks, photos, graphics, software,
etc.) you should first contact the seller and politely, but
firmly, ask them to remove it.

If they don't, or if they take more than a few hours to
respond, you should contact the auction site directly to
request an immediate takedown of the offending auction.

eBay's "Vero" program, for example, enables you to simply
fax in a form or send an email to get an auction removed.

You should also go back and check periodically to make sure
that an offending seller doesn't start selling your product
again once they think the uproar has died down.

Third, pay attention to emails from customers and prospects
for signs of anything strange.

Watch for comments like "I saw your ebook for sale on eBay,"
or "I saw it cheaper on eBay."

Also, make sure to compare customer service inquiries to
your customer database.

Anyone who asks specific questions about a product and
appears to possess it, but never bought it from you, should
immediately raise a red flag.

Always try to find out where they bought the product and get
them to send you a copy of their email receipt, because all
roads to the thief usually lead back through the credit card
processor.

Finally, trust the never-failing boomerang of karma to come
full circle and ultimately whack any thief in the head!

Focused Content Still "King" Online

More on "Content" ..this time FOCUSED Content..
and a really inexpensive way to get lots of "Focused Content"
each and every month for you to use on your own website(s).
So,

Focused Content Still "King" Online

- by Jim Edwards

Ever notice how some websites grab your attention and hold
it for hours, even to the point where you must consciously
drag yourself away from the monitor?

In an age when websites truly rate a "dime a dozen,"
discovering a really great website feels more like finding a
$10 bill on the sidewalk than merely surfing the Internet.

Whether their creators did it on purpose or not, virtually
all successful websites share the following characteristics:

First, every good website focuses on a specific, narrow,
"niche" audience.

Imagine the difference between a light bulb and a laser
beam.

Both provide light, but the laser focuses its light with
pinpoint precision, while the light bulb diffuses its light
in every direction.

In other words, successful websites don't try to sell
cooking supplies to people interested in the latest fishing
or hunting equipment.

They specifically provide content on exact topics of
interest to their target audience, instead of trying to
offer all things to all people.

Second, with the exception of personal, family, or hobby
websites, every website operates with the ultimate purpose
of turning a profit.

Unfortunately many websites make this their only purpose
and, thus, fail miserably in their attempts to succeed
online.

We saw how blatantly greedy, self-centered websites failed
in the "dot-bomb" era... and it got ugly.

On the other hand, successful websites make money as a
result of providing products, services, and information of
obvious value for their targeted visitors.

They win by putting the needs and desires of the visitors
first and get rewarded in the process.

Next, virtually every good website shares something in
common with successful newspapers and magazines:
great headlines!

Any website that makes it over the long haul does so by
quickly communicating the main theme of the website with a
compelling headline or opening statement that pulls people
into the text.

Most people surf the Web in "stay or bail" mode, meaning
they constantly evaluate everything they see on whether they
should keep reading or click away to another website.

The headline or opening statement on any website represents
the single most powerful factor to influence people to stick
around and find out more, or hit their back button faster
than you can say "Windows Blue Screen of Death!"

Finally, once a good website pulls a targeted visitor into
the text, they provide focused, benefit-oriented product
information, articles and other content that plays to the
reader's built-in mental radio station, WII-FM (What's In It
For Me)!

By providing narrowly focused content, the website satisfies
specific desires for the audience and, if it's a topic of
intense interest, holds their attention for an extended
period of time and gets them to buy.

The next time you get a "great idea" for an ebook, Internet
business, or someone approaches you with a "can't miss"
online tech stock, pull out this list and use it to evaluate
the big picture.

Understanding how and why websites succeed or fail can help
you predict the ultimate fate of just about any online
venture.

Beat Google’s Duplicate Content Filter

"Duplicate Content" seems to be a real issue that webmasters are concerned with especially because of all the Private Label Products being sold lately on the Net. Webmasters are concerned because "Duplicate Content" can afffect websites and blogs as far as Google rankings. The goal is to have their websites or blogs indexed in hopes of getting high search engine ranking and as a result - lots of traffic to their sites.

The option of having sites banned from the Google Adsense online advertising system due to "Duplicate Content" is something all webmasters are trying to avoid . Here is an article I received recently from Priya Shah in her newsletter that sheds some light on the problem of "Duplicate Content". These tips just may help with your website marketing and keeping your sites or blogs indexed instead of banned by Google..

As always ..

Enjoy !

Article Marketing Tips:

How To Beat Google’s Duplicate Content Filter

If you have any interest in getting high search engine rankings for your website (and who doesn’t) you’ve probably been sold the idea that writing and publishing your own articles will do it for you.

Here’s why that’s not entirely true.

Imagine the following scenario…

You write an article around a keyword or keyphrase you want to rank well for.

You submit that article to all the article submission sites and directories and ezines you can find.

Your article gets published in hundreds of places.

You now have hundreds of links pointing back to your main site…

But your own site never shows up in the top ten results for that particular keyword or keyphrase.

Instead you find that there are lots of other sites carrying your article that rank better than yours.

You’ve completely missed out on an excellent opportunity to get high rankings for your keyword or keyphrase.

Even worse… you just handed your precious keyword-rich content on a platter to possible competitors who happened to publish your article on their website, and may have lost some of your most targeted visitors and sales to them.

So where did you go wrong?

Your mistake lay in using your article for entirely the wrong purpose. You failed to use the power of article marketing to give your site an unbeatable advantage over others.

Here’s how to use your articles the right way to boost your search engine rankings.

1. Publish Unique Content On Your Website

When you make an article available for reprint, the article, by virtue of it being published on hundreds of other sites, now no longer qualifies as unique (the operative word here) content.

Google’s duplicate content filter will make the more authoritative sites that publish your article rank higher than yours for the keywords your article is optimized for.

Instead of making your article the main course, use it as an appetizer to direct search engines and readers to a unique, optimized report or white paper on your website, and you’ll see dramatically different results.

2. Use Your Article As Spider Bait

Think of your articles as simply the conduit that leads search engines to your website.

Publishing your articles all over the web is like leaving scraps for a puppy (a.k.a. the search engines) that follows them all the way back to the kennel (a.k.a. your website) where it can feast on the main course - your unique content.

3. Use Keyword-Rich Anchor Text In Your Resource Box

Use your primary keywords or keyphrases in the anchor text of the article resource box that contains a link pointing back to your unique content.

This will create hundreds of keyword-rich links pointing back to the well-optimized report on your website, and boost your rankings for the keywords of your choice.

Follow the steps above and you can use your content the right way to beat Google’s duplicate content filter.
